Kerry Strayer, creator and leader of The New KC 7, was born and raised in Nebraska and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.  In 1981 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri to study saxophone with Tim Timmons at The University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music where he earned a Master's Degree in saxophone performance in 1985.  

Since that time he has been active as a saxophonist, arranger, bandleader and educator in the Kansas City area.  

Kerry operates several configurations of groups…The Kerry Strayer Quartet, The New Kansas City 7 + and The Strayer Orchestra.  These acts are jazz variety playing big band, jazz standards, Latin jazz, a variety of dance styles including some 60's - 80's pop material.
